Each season in Charlotte, North Carolina is unique and wonderful and all of the seasons are full of birthday celebrations for children of all ages. The season will determine for party planners, just what type of party to plan for, and how elaborate the event will be.  Springtime parties are normally held outside unless the child lives in the north.  In this case there are other choices for venues which allow for some outside activities but a place to go in case the weather becomes too cold for the kiddies.   Winter events could center around ice skating, cupcake baking and other indoor activities.

There are many churches and hotel venues which are perfect for the celebration.  Today, many restaurants are allowing a space to be designated to allow birthday events for smaller parties too.  Venues are popping up all over which are specifically built for these occasions since they are becoming more and more popular.  Outdoor nature areas and venues such as zoos and amusement parks are among the many choices for parents today.

Fun Things to add to the party:

Clowns, makeup artists and balloon artists are among the favorites for any birthday party. Many parents who have inclement weather choose to hold the party at a hotel where they are not restricted.  Indoor swimming pools are a great idea for these cold winter days.  Today, most parents and event planners are planning ahead by choosing foods to be catered and ready on the day of the event.  The menu chosen (especially the desserts) should be decorated to correspond with the specific holiday nearest the party date.

Summer is the season to consider a carnival themed event.  A photo booth to take those fun selfies, clowns, magicians and even old-fashioned carts serving tacos and hotdogs are always welcomed by the kids.  Cotton candy machines can be rented for an extra splash of color and as a sweet treat.  A petting zoo is a popular choice for smaller kids as long as the temperature is not too hot for the kids and the animals.  Kids love scavenger hunts and this can be done inside or outside.  We would also suggest considering a croquet set which can be set up inside or outside.  For every event parents should have a place to go should a sudden spring shower spoil the party.

Dancing is always a welcome addition to any child’s party.  Using the popular songs the children recognize is the first place to start.  You can simply use your own equipment to play the songs.  Other parents going all out may choose to hire a professional dj for the party.  Either way, the kids will love dancing in whatever form it is offered.

Traditional party ideas:

The Hispanic culture celebrates life.  One of the Hispanic party celebrations is called a Quinceanera (or sweet fifteen) birthday party. This event has cultural roots in Latin America but is celebrated today around the world.  The party called the Quinceanera marks a transition from childhood to womanhood in the Spanish culture.  This event signifies becoming a young lady.  Supposedly the girls are taught from early ages to cook, weave and how to care for babies by the elders of the family.  This prepares them for roles as a future wife and mother.

Preparing for the Quinceanera party:

Some families go all out for these sweet fifteen events.  Lavish decorations and large event halls are rented for the occasion.  The dress is formal and the amount attending the Quinceanera can run into the hundreds.  Not just the immediate family are invited but attendees may include everyone from the church family and extended family and friends. This grand event may be compared to the debutante balls held for young ladies in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Some of these events take on a more religious tone, while others are all about the dancing, the music and the celebration of the party girl featured.  Shutterfly reveals a few of the most popular Quinceanera themes chosen.  Parents of the child being celebrated spare no expense and an event such as this can run into the thousands.  It is extremely important to hire a professional event planner when considering an event of this magnitude.  Contact us for your next Quinceanera event.

Celebration of the child or the baptism celebration:

This event is a celebration followed by various Hispanic countries, here in the United States and in Europe to commemorate a child who is forty days old or for a three year old child.  It began from the ritual in honor of the Virgin Mary’s presentation at the temple when she was age three.  It also refers to the presentation of baby Jesus in the temple when the child was forty days old which is around the time that most parents baptize their child.  It can be done for boys as well as for girls.

The child is dressed in a formal gown or grand suit for the occasion and he or she is accompanied by parents and members of the family chosen as a godparent as well.  After the baptism by the minister or by the priest, there is a party with gifts for the child from family members.  These gifts may include bracelets, money, and other items to mark the event.

Most cultures celebrate life by getting the family together just after the birth of the child and enjoying a menu of favorite foods.  This will include of course, a birthday cake and other family food choices. At any birthday celebration, it is customary to receive gifts from the people attending the party. Gifts can include books, jewelry, customized with the birthday child’s name and other info related to the birth.

Toys, gift cards and money is also welcomed by the new parents.  In some cultures it is a custom to hand out gifts to those attending the party such as the godparents when a baptism is the main event.
