When planning a charity fundraiser, we invite attendees to preview items or services to be sold. The items or services are donated by companies and professionals. The attendees should be prepared to pay the highest amount in order to purchase the items. Furthermore,  the money will go to the charity.

Bidding for specific items:

Members of the audience place different bids on the same item. The highest bidder wins the item or service. The auctioneer is conducting the entire bidding process. Competitive bids motivate attendees to raise the price for the item or service. The ultimate price is determined once the highest bid is accepted.

Beginning to plan for a charity auction:

Before brainstorming for theme or decoration, there are important steps that need to be followed in order to host a successful, lucrative fundraiser. A goal and budget must be set for the auction.  Having a set goal is not only great for motivation, but it is also necessary for choosing which items or services needed to be auctioned off.

To pull off a successful, efficient auction, there needs to be an experienced team to make the auction run seamlessly. Once there has been a team chosen, this team can solicit items. They will also agree on a location for the future event.

An auctioneer will be chosen. The auctioneer chosen must be lively because, they will be conducting most of the event and setting the tone for the whole event. He or she will make the event so choose wisely.

Once the fundraiser has been promoted and tickets have been sold, the auction is soon on its way. The event then needs to be promoted and the auction must be set up. Attendees must be informed prior to the bidding of their obligation to pay any amount promised during the auction. After every item and service has been sold, attendees can collect their winnings.

Sending out thank you cards to attendees that placed the highest bids is always incredibly important. This encourages them to attend future events. After all, the goal is to raise the most money possible for charity, and it is dire to invite generous people again.

Halloween History:

Let’s get in the Halloween spirit and talk about the history of the holiday.

When most of us think of Halloween we think of sweet treats and wearing fun costumes.  Halloween is celebrated today around the world.  The days grow shorter in the Fall and the nights get colder… children of all ages usher in the Fall season with costumes, candy, and good fun for all.

Halloween really began over 2,000 years ago as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (correctly pronounced (sow-in).  It was first held in The land now known as Ireland, the United Kingdom and Northern France.

It was a holiday to celebrate “all saints” day on November 1st by the Celts, their new year). The evening before was known “All Hallows Eve” and later changed to the name of Halloween. Halloween has morphed into a day of activities, carving of jack-o-lanterns, and the most popular activity of all “trick or treating.”

Definition of trick or treating:

This started as a way to network with family, friends, and neighbors. The children visited homes to get sweet treats.  If no treats were received, the home bearing no treats would be punished… that is where the “trick” comes into play. Wrapping homes in toilet paper and other chaos was done to the undeserving person bearing no treats.  In other words, “give us a treat or be prepared to be tricked.”

“When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers ’tis near Halloween.” Events By Jaclyn would like to wish you a happy and safe Halloween!
